Do you have a legal issue of public interest? You don’t have to have a client if the work you propose doesn’t require one. Or do you need more hands on deck to get public interest legal work done? Why use Article Two?
Use our Compliance and Precedents Guide to see whether Article Two is right for you and your client, and learn how to crowdfund compliantly.
You must be admitted in Australia to launch a campaign, but your campaign can be for anywhere in the world, and we encourage partnerships.
Use the Draft Your Campaign Guide so your campaign is high-quality and communicates to donors what you will do, why, and how. If you have a client, you must have instructions and a customised costs agreement. Questions from you or your client?
Create your Article Two account, fill out our Lawyer Registration form to get access to the Create Campaign feature, and submit your draft campaign there. You can save drafts at any time.
Use the Creator Account tab to create and/or link your Stripe Connect account, so you can receive your donations. You must connect your Stripe Connect account to your legal practice trust account or bank account. If it successfully connects, the blue Stripe Connect button will read: “Connected!”. You will be able to release donations manually or on a regular setting. To issue updates to your donors, you can also create and connect a MailChimp account.
Article Two will suggest feedback for you to consider. The ultimate decision is yours, and remember not to share any information with us that is confidential and vulnerable to subpoena.
Resubmit the form and wait for confirmation that the campaign has been listed!
Congratulations! Your campaign is listed on Article Two.
Market the campaign to generate donations. Consider your marketing strategy for the start, middle, and end of the campaign. We can help you with this.
You can receive donations from 45 countries, so your campaign can go global from day 1.
Share key updates in your campaign under the Create Campaign tab, to renew interest in your campaign and prevent misleading donors.
Donations go through your Stripe Connect account directly into your trust account or bank account. You must use these funds in accordance with the representations in your campaign. If the work changes, you must give an update or risk misleading new donors about what the money will be used for.
If you have a client, you must act on the client’s instructions and in accordance with the costs agreement, as usual.
If you are registered for DGR status, you must issue a receipt to the donor for the amount you receive, less processing fees and Article Two’s 5 per cent fee.
Giving updates helps with donor engagement even after your funding period ends. Strategise and comply with your obligations using our Compliance and Precedents Guide.
